Construction begins on Irish Commercials Building
May 2008

Anyone driving through Osberstown over the last few weeks will have noticed the commencement of construction of the newest addition to the Osberstown vision. This new building within the Gateway section of the development will be the new headquarters of Irish Commercials (Sales) Ltd and the Osberstown team are delighted to welcome them to the development.

The building contract, which is a ‘design to completion package’, was awarded to Milltown Engineering, Carlow, and they have kept the development programme on schedule.

Irish Commercials was formed in 1972 and has enjoyed a long and successful history in business in Leinster. A privately owned company, it has become synonymous with excellence in the heavy goods vehicle sector of the market and puts its success down to a complete focus on after-sales support. Managing Director of Irish Commercials, Barry Horan stressed that “selling the vehicle is only the beginning of the process for us and marks the start of our commitment to keeping it on the road for many years afterwards.” The company currently employs 80 people, both at its existing head office, and in various customers’ premises around Dublin and surrounding counties, and will employ a further 15 when it is relocated to its new premises at Osberstown at the end of the year.

“We are looking forward to moving into our new depot and taking advantage of the numerous efficiencies that can be achieved in a purpose built premises, one of which is a drive through workshop.” said Mr. Horan. He also said that “the company will also be in a better position to concentrate on growing the existing business from its new premises as well as adding new products and services over the next few years. In summary, the new premises at Osberstown will allow us to provide our customers with the best possible service and most comprehensive transport solutions in the business.”

Irish Commercials imports and sells Volvo Trucks and provides aftermarket service and parts support for both Volvo Trucks & Buses. Work commenced on the project at the start of March 2008 and is expected to be completed by March 2009. When complete the new facility will consist of an office complex suite over three floors, vehicle workshop, parts warehouse, training centre, commercial vehicle test centre (Vehicle Test Network), as well as display, offices and warehouse area for sister company Partech, who supply spare parts for all makes of commercial vehicles. When complete the new facility will be the most advanced of its kind in the country.

The Company’s new location within Osberstown is well positioned to serve the growing demands of both Dublin and the surrounding counties, as the development fronts onto the M7 motorway and provides easy access to all main transportation routes within the country. This access will be further improved once the proposed intersection between Osberstown and the M7 is completed within the next 18 months.
